Stryker Corporation has announced that it will no longer support some of its older defibrillator products later this year. The announcement, posted on their website, ends support for the LIFEPAK 12 monitor/defibrillator, LIFEPAK 20 defibrillator/monitor, LIFEPAK 500 defibrillator, and HeartSine samaritan PAD 300 and 300P.
The existing product line including the LIFEPAK 15, LIFEPAK 1000, LIFEPAK 20e, LIFEPAK CR2, LIFEPAK CR Plus and the HeartSine family of AEDs (350P, 360P, and 450P) will continue to be supported by Stryker.
The LIFEPAK 12 and LIFEPAK 20 units were primarily used by hospital and EMS customers. The LIFEPAK 500 was popular as a first responder level (fire, police, EMS) AED and some Public Access to Defibrillation (PAD) applications. The HeartSine samaritan PAD 300 and 300P were primarily used for PAD applications.
Customers that own AEDs that are no longer supported should consider trading in their device for a discount on a new AED. Unsupported AED devices risk not having replacement pads or batteries available and will not be eligible for service in the event that they malfunction.
Depending on where the device is placed, AED Team recommends the following replacement devices for AED units:
- LIFEPAK 500 for First Responder Application: Consider the LIFEPAK CR2 or LIFEPAK 1000 - These devices are compatible with the LIFEPAK 15 monitor/defibrillator, are durable to be carried into medical calls, and CPR feedback technology. The CR2 also features an industry leading 0 second charge time - the unit is pre-charged for the first two shocks - which allows near-immediate treatment and reduction of CPR hands-off time.
- LIFEPAK 500 or HeartSine samaritan 300 / 300P for Public Access to Defibrillation application: Consider the HeartSine samaritan 350P, 360P, or 450P - These AEDs are inexpensive, have the highest IP rating against water and dust ingress of all AED units on the US market, and feature a 4 year combined battery and pad standby life.
